John Havard is Professor of English at the State University of New York, Binghamton, where his work focuses on eighteenth-century and Romantic literature and political culture. He received his PhD from the University of Chicago and an MA from the University of Virginia. He did his undergraduate degree in England, in his home town, at the University of Leeds.
He is currently finishing You Are Reading Jane Austen Wrong.
He is also the author of Disaffected Parties (Oxford, 2019) and Late Romanticism and the End of Politics (Cambridge, 2023). His edition of Mary Shelley’s The Last Man will appear from Penguin Classics, with a foreword by Rebecca Solnit. His essays about literature and politics have appeared in The Los Angeles Review of Books, Minnesota Review, The New Rambler, and Public Books.
